About this build
A Claude and Perplexity powered workflow that runs every week, checks what your top 3 competitors have been up to, and delivers a structured briefing covering new features, pricing changes, content strategy shifts, and anything worth paying attention to.
What was built
Started building this after realising I had not properly checked what my main competitors were doing in about three months. By the time I caught up they had shipped a feature I had been planning and were already ranking for keywords I was targeting. The workflow runs every Monday morning. Here is what it does in order: Perplexity searches for each competitor by name and pulls the most recent news, blog posts, product updates, social posts and any mentions in industry publications from the past 7 days. The raw search results get passed to Claude with a structured prompt that extracts only the useful signal and ignores noise. Claude outputs a briefing in the same format every week — new features or product changes, pricing or packaging updates, content and SEO moves, notable partnerships or press mentions, and one line on the overall strategic direction it looks like they are heading. The whole thing gets compiled into a single document and sent to a Slack channel or email at 9am Monday so it is waiting for you at the start of the week. The Claude prompt is the part that took the most iteration. The first version was pulling in too much irrelevant information and producing a briefing that was longer than useful. The final version uses a strict format with a character limit per section and an explicit instruction to skip anything that is not actionable or genuinely new. What I found after using this for 6 weeks: I caught two pricing changes before my team did, noticed one competitor quietly pulling back on content which turned out to be a signal they were shifting strategy, and found a keyword gap I would not have spotted otherwise. It is not perfect. Perplexity misses things sometimes, especially for smaller competitors with low online presence. For those I still do a manual check every few weeks. But for competitors who are active online it covers probably 80 percent of what you actually need to know. Will share the full n8n workflow and Claude prompt in the comments if there is interest.
