Elmren Voice — local document-to-audio and read-along exports on Mac
Built by ElmrenVoice ·
About this build
A Mac desktop app that turns TXT, PDF, DOCX and EPUB into local audio, word-highlighted HTML players, M4B audiobooks and captioned MP4.
What was built
I am Chong Wang, the developer of Elmren Voice. I used AI coding assistance including Codex to build it; this showcase was prepared with AI assistance. Other in Tools used refers to that development assistance and to the local Kokoro/Qwen3-TTS models. The app uses a Tauri 2, React and Rust shell with a Python MLX sidecar. It imports TXT, PDF, DOCX and EPUB, then exports self-contained HTML read-along players with word highlighting, M4B audiobooks and captioned MP4 videos. Synthesis and voice cloning run locally after initial voice-pack downloads. Cloning is only for your own or permitted voices. It requires an Apple Silicon Mac (M1+) with macOS 13+. It includes 64 voices; the current reading workflow is English. Windows is not available yet. The no-card trial includes 120 synthesis minutes over 7 days from first launch, followed by a $39.99 lifetime license for one Mac. Product/download: https://elmren.com/?utm_source=forumrix&utm_medium=forum&utm_campaign=free_distribution The proof link opens a real exported read-along player in the browser; it is a demo of the output, while generation runs in the Mac app. I would like feedback on chapter navigation and the standalone player, and suggestions for the next useful export feature.
