I’m losing my mind with ChatGPT’s new extreme censorship on romance. It completely ruined my slow-burn novel. Anyone else?

Hey everyone,

I’m reaching a breaking point with ChatGPT (free version) and its recent safety filter updates. I’ve been working on a deeply emotional, dark romance/political drama novel for a while, and the censorship has suddenly become so aggressive that it refuses even basic romantic physical contact.

For context, my story follows two main characters, Ji Sung (a cold, protective strategist/husband) and Goo Anna (his gentle, vulnerable wife). After a brutal, heavy political confrontation where Ji Sung gets physically hurt, he returns to their dark bedroom. I wanted to write a highly cinematic, raw, emotional scene where Anna treats his injured hands under a dim amber light, leading into intense, desperate, and breathless kissing—purely emotional and deeply physical relief after trauma. NO explicit/NSFW or non-consensual content at all. Just two married characters holding each other tightly and kissing on a bed.

But ChatGPT flat out refuses to write it. It keeps throwing the "I can't generate that" error or completely breaks the screenplay format, turning the scene into a flat, sterile, robotic summary like a PG-rated nurse cartoon.

I’ve tried everything: custom instructions, jailbreak roleplay prompts, feeding it its own past successful romantic prose to gaslight it into continuing the style... Nothing works anymore. It immediately gets flagged or gives me options to focus on political harbor scandals instead of the romantic intimacy I actually asked for.

Is anyone else experiencing this hyper-censorship on standard, non-explicit bold romance? How are you guys bypassing this, or is ChatGPT completely dead for fiction writers now? Are there any free, easy-to-use alternative apps available on the Play Store that actually understand artistic depth and passionate romance without getting triggered by a kiss?

Any advice would save my story. Thank you.

You're definitely not the only one noticing stricter guardrails lately. I've found that ChatGPT still works well for emotional romance, but it often struggles when scenes combine intense physical intimacy, vulnerability, injuries, or highly charged emotional tension, even when the content isn't explicit.
