Apple now lets you replace Siri with Claude or Gemini on iPhone, anyone actually switched yet?

So this is still kind of wild to me. After years of Siri being the most ignored assistant on the planet, Apple finally caved at WWDC and now lets you pick a different AI assistant as your default on iPhone, including Claude and Gemini-powered Siri itself.

I switched my default iPhone AI assistant from Siri to Claude the day iOS 27 beta dropped and it's a genuinely different experience. Ask it something complicated and it actually reasons through it instead of opening a Google search and reading you the first result like old Siri used to.

A few things I'm curious what others have found: Has anyone actually compared Gemini-powered Siri vs switching to Claude as your default iPhone assistant? Curious if the native Siri integration is smoother even if the model itself is technically less capable, since it has deeper access to Apple's ecosystem stuff like Calendar, Messages and Reminders.

Is the multi-AI Extensions system actually useful day to day or is it more of a "cool that this exists" feature you forget about after a week?

For anyone in Australia, UK or Canada has the rollout actually hit your region yet or is this still US only for now? I've seen mixed reports.

And honestly, with Gemini's market share apparently jumping something like 100 percent in the last six months according to recent traffic data, are people actually switching their daily habit away from ChatGPT, or is this more of a "everyone's trying it once" spike that settles back down?

Would love to hear what setup people have landed on a few weeks in, especially anyone who tried more than one option before settling.

same..................I switched to Claude on my phone, but I keep noticing that Siri still chimes in for anything related to my calendar. It feels like Apple hasn't completely taken a backseat yet, ngl

I’d separate “best model” from “best assistant surface.” Claude or Gemini can win on raw reasoning, but a default phone assistant wins when it can actually take useful actions: calendar edits, reminders, messages, location context, and device settings. The test I’d run is 10 repeated real tasks in three buckets: answer-only, personal-data lookup, and action-taking. If Claude wins bucket one but native Siri/Gemini wins buckets two and three, I’d keep the native assistant as default and use Claude deliberately for deeper reasoning. The extensions system only becomes sticky if it removes a context switch, not if it just adds another chooser screen.
